Hemoglobin-15

The most exciting news was received today in my monthly check up appointment, my hemoglobin has maintained at a level of 15. This first happened about a month ago. To be truthful I didn't understand why it was such a joyous occasion. It wasn't clear to me that I had never been over a 8, even with the monthly blood transfusions. But this month the news was so exciting because over the weekend I caught a cold. I was coughing, sneezing, had a fever, and had an annoying head ache. We took the normal precautions for the fever which is to get to the Emergency Room. There I was told it was just a cold and not to worry. Today, I wasn't sure if my blood counts and white counts were going to raise a question or not. It turns out that catching this cold was inevitable because of the viruses going around. And that it has not affected my counts at all. There is no need to worry.

Tomorrow I will be attending Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Parent Support Group meeting to talk about the transplant just as I did last month. The word is spreading, and everyone is so excited for what may result from all of this buzz. Every child who fits the criteria may be cured from Sickle Cell.
